The individual traveler must still meet the visa conditions, use the correct passport, and complete any permit steps applicable to the intended travel dates.

The eVisa and Umrah Permit Are Not the Same Thing

This is the most important point on this page.

A Saudi tourist eVisa and an Umrah permit perform different functions.

The Saudi Tourist eVisa

The eVisa allows an eligible foreign traveler to request entry into Saudi Arabia for permitted tourism activities, including Umrah but excluding Hajj. It is connected to the traveler’s passport and remains subject to the validity, entry, and stay conditions shown on the issued visa.

The Umrah Permit

The Umrah permit is issued through the official Nusuk system. The government service instructs users to enter the Umrah section, choose the permit service, and select an available date and time.

The permit does not replace the visa.

Likewise, the visa does not automatically create the permit.

A traveler may therefore have a valid eVisa but still need to complete the Nusuk permit process before performing Umrah.

Hajj Permission

Hajj follows a separate process.

A tourist eVisa that permits Umrah does not authorize the traveler to perform Hajj. The fact that both journeys involve travel to Makkah does not make their visa and permit rules interchangeable.

Do not travel for Hajj using a tourist eVisa or assume that an Umrah permit can be converted into Hajj authorization.

Do You Need a Separate Umrah Visa?

Not every eligible traveler needs a dedicated Umrah visa.

A traveler who qualifies for and receives a Saudi tourist eVisa can use that visa for Umrah, provided that:

• The eVisa remains valid

• The traveler uses the passport connected to the application

• The permitted stay has not been exceeded

• The journey does not fall under a restriction that prevents the intended travel

• The current Umrah permit process has been completed

• The traveler is not attempting to perform Hajj

The official Saudi eVisa portal expressly lists Umrah among the activities permitted under the tourist visa.

Travelers who are not eligible for the tourist eVisa may need to use another available visa route. Being eligible to perform Umrah as a religious journey does not automatically mean that every nationality qualifies for the online tourist eVisa.

Check your nationality and personal circumstances before relying on the eVisa route.

What Is Nusuk?

Nusuk is the official Saudi platform for Hajj and Umrah information, services, bookings, and guidance. It operates under the supervision of the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.

For an Umrah traveler, Nusuk may be used to:

• Register personal and travel information

• Enter passport and visa details

• Access the Umrah permit service

• Select an available date and time

• View an issued permit

• Access other pilgrimage-related services

• Book a separate Rawdah visit when available

The government’s permit instructions show that visitors can select the Umrah section in Nusuk, choose the permit service, review available dates and times, and issue the permit.

An approved eVisa does not mean that Nusuk has automatically reserved an Umrah time for the traveler.

The traveler should complete the permit process separately and check that the information in Nusuk matches the passport and visa.

Do Not Confuse the Umrah Permit With a Rawdah Permit

An Umrah permit and a Rawdah visit permit are separate bookings.

The Umrah permit relates to performing Umrah in Makkah.

The Rawdah permit relates to visiting and praying in Al-Rawdah Al-Sharifah in Madinah. The official service provides separate Rawdah permit options for men and women through Nusuk.

Receiving one permit should not be treated as receiving the other.

A traveler planning both should check each booking separately in the Nusuk application.

What You Should Have Before Traveling

Before leaving for Saudi Arabia, make sure that you have checked more than the flight and hotel.

You should be able to confirm:

• Your visa has been issued and remains valid

• Your name and passport number are correct

• You will travel with the passport used for the application

• Your passport has sufficient remaining validity

• Your intended stay fits the conditions of the visa

• Your Nusuk account has been created correctly

• Your Umrah permit has been issued for an available date and time

• Your permit can be opened on your phone

• Your travel dates do not conflict with current seasonal restrictions

• Every accompanying traveler has the documents required for them

Do not assume that one family member’s visa or permit automatically covers a spouse, child, parent, or travel companion.

Each traveler’s passport, visa, and applicable permit should be checked individually.

Can You Book Flights Before Receiving the Permit?

Many travelers book flights early because prices rise as the journey approaches. However, non-refundable bookings create risk when the visa or permit process is incomplete.

Before committing to a fixed itinerary, consider:

• Whether your eVisa has been approved

• Whether the information on the eVisa is correct

• Whether Nusuk registration is working

• Whether suitable Umrah dates are available

• Whether your travel falls near the Hajj season

• Whether your hotel and flight can be changed

• Whether every family member is ready

The Nusuk system offers available dates and times rather than allowing the traveler to create any appointment they choose.

When suitable dates are not yet available, avoid assuming that a permit will definitely appear for the exact day already booked.

Can You Perform Hajj With the Same eVisa?

No.

The Saudi tourist eVisa can be used for Umrah but does not authorize Hajj.

This remains true even when:

• The eVisa is still valid

• The traveler has previously performed Umrah

• The traveler is already inside Saudi Arabia

• The visa permits multiple entries

• The traveler has booked accommodation in Makkah

• The planned journey is religious rather than recreational

Hajj has its own visa, permit, eligibility, scheduling, and package requirements.

Travelers should not rely on social media posts, informal agents, or another person’s previous experience when deciding whether a tourist visa can be used during the Hajj period.

A Simple Way to Understand the Process

Think of the Umrah journey as three separate checks:

Check 1: Can You Enter Saudi Arabia?

This depends on having a suitable and valid visa, a usable passport, and meeting the applicable entry conditions.

Check 2: Can You Perform Umrah at the Planned Time?

This depends on completing the current permit process and obtaining an available date and time through Nusuk.

Check 3: Are Your Travel Dates Suitable?

This depends on the visa’s validity, permitted stay, permit availability, and any seasonal restrictions in force during the intended journey.

Completing one check does not automatically complete the other two.

Before You Begin the Application

Prepare the following information first:

• Your current nationality

• Your country of residence

• The passport you will use for travel

• Your intended travel period

• The names and passport details of accompanying family members

• A suitable personal photograph

• An active email address

• A reachable mobile or WhatsApp number

• Enough time to complete the visa and Nusuk steps before departure

Applying early gives you time to correct a passport detail, replace an unsuitable photograph, resolve a Nusuk registration problem, or change travel dates when the required appointment is unavailable.

The goal is not simply to obtain a visa. The goal is to reach the day of travel with the correct visa, passport, permit, and itinerary already aligned.

Who Can Use a Saudi eVisa for Umrah?

The simplest route is available to travelers whose passport nationality appears on Saudi Arabia’s current eVisa eligibility list.

However, nationality is not always the only factor. Some travelers may also qualify through an eligible residence status or an existing Schengen, United States, or United Kingdom visit visa.

This is why two people living in the same country may receive different answers when they check their Saudi visa options.

One person may qualify because of their passport. Another may qualify because of their residence or visa status. A third traveler may need to apply through a Saudi embassy or an authorized service center.

Before preparing documents or paying for a service, check the route that applies to the actual traveler.

The Nationality-Based eVisa Route

The official Saudi tourist eVisa portal accepts applications from passport holders of listed eligible countries. The tourist eVisa can be used for permitted tourism activities and Umrah, but not Hajj.

You can begin by checking whether your passport appears on our Saudi Arabia eVisa eligible countries list.

Eligibility is based on the nationality shown on the passport that will be used for the application and journey.

It is not based only on:

• Where the traveler currently lives

• Where the traveler was born

• Where the flight will depart from

• The nationality of a spouse

• The nationality of another family member

• Having previously visited Saudi Arabia

• Wanting to travel specifically for Umrah

For example, a Pakistani citizen living in the United Kingdom does not become a British passport holder because they live there. Their nationality remains Pakistani, but their UK residence status or another qualifying document may open a separate application route.

The correct question is therefore not only:

Is my nationality eligible?

It is also:

Do I have another visa or residence status that may make me eligible through the current KSA Visa system?

Additional eVisa Eligibility Routes

Saudi Arabia’s KSA Visa platform currently states that an electronic tourism visa may also be available to certain travelers who meet one of these conditions:

• Holders of a Schengen visit visa

• Holders of a United States visit visa

• Holders of a United Kingdom visit visa

• Permanent residents of the United States

• Permanent residents of the European Union

• Permanent residents of the United Kingdom

• Residents of a Gulf Cooperation Council country

These routes are separate from simply holding a passport from an eligible nationality.

Having one of these documents does not mean that every application will automatically be accepted. The official platform may still check the document type, validity, traveler information, and other conditions during the eligibility process.

Do not select one of these routes unless the document genuinely belongs to the applicant and remains suitable for use.

What if You Hold a Schengen, US, or UK Visa?

A traveler whose nationality is not included in the standard eVisa country list may still be able to use the electronic route when holding an eligible visit visa for the Schengen area, the United States, or the United Kingdom.

Before relying on this route, have the following ready:

• The passport that contains or is connected to the qualifying visa

• The qualifying visa number

• The visa’s issue and expiry dates

• Clear evidence of the visa type

• Any previous travel information requested by the platform

• Accurate information about the country that issued the visa

Do not enter a residence permit as a visit visa or select a country merely because you previously traveled there.

The information entered should match the actual document.

When you are uncertain whether your document qualifies, review the available Saudi Arabia visa options before submitting an application under the wrong route.

What if You Are a Permanent Resident of the US, EU, or UK?

Permanent residents of the United States, European Union, or United Kingdom may also fall within the additional electronic tourism visa categories described by KSA Visa.

Permanent residence is not the same as:

• A short-term tourist visa

• A temporary visitor stamp

• A pending residence application

• An expired residence card

• A work permit that no longer remains valid

• Living in a country without holding recognized residence status

The applicant should use the actual residence document requested by the platform.

A person living in France, for example, should not claim permanent EU residence unless their legal status and documentation support that answer.

Can GCC Residents Apply for a Saudi eVisa?

Residents of Gulf Cooperation Council countries may also be eligible through the electronic tourism visa route shown by the KSA Visa platform.

The GCC countries are:

• Bahrain

• Kuwait

• Oman

• Qatar

• United Arab Emirates

• Saudi Arabia

For a foreign national living in one of these countries, the platform may ask for details connected to their residence status.

The applicant should check that:

• The residence permit remains valid

• The occupation or status information is entered accurately

• The passport and residence details belong to the same person

• The intended travel dates fit the documents

• The selected application route matches the applicant’s real situation

Do not assume that simply being physically present in Dubai, Doha, Muscat, or another GCC city makes someone a GCC resident.

A tourist visiting the UAE is not the same as a UAE resident.

Nationality and Country of Residence Are Different

This is one of the most common application mistakes.

Nationality normally means the country that issued the passport.

Country of residence means the country where the applicant currently lives with a lawful residence status.

For example:

• An Indian citizen living in the UAE has Indian nationality and UAE residence.

• A Turkish citizen living in Germany has Turkish nationality and German residence.

• A British citizen living in Malaysia has British nationality and Malaysian residence.

These details should not be swapped because one option appears more likely to produce an approval.

Incorrect nationality or residence information can create problems during the application, Nusuk registration, airline checks, or arrival in Saudi Arabia.

Does Every Muslim Automatically Qualify for the eVisa?

No.

The Saudi tourist eVisa may permit Umrah, but the desire to perform Umrah does not by itself create eVisa eligibility.

The applicant must still qualify through an available route and meet the relevant passport and application conditions.

A traveler may be fully eligible to perform Umrah from a religious perspective but still need a different Saudi visa route because their nationality, residence, or travel documents do not fit the online tourist eVisa process.

Do not confuse:

• Being a Muslim who intends to perform Umrah

• Being eligible for the Saudi tourist eVisa

• Receiving an approved eVisa

• Obtaining the current Nusuk Umrah permit

Each is a separate part of the journey.

What if Your Nationality Is Not Eligible?

Do not assume that your Umrah journey is impossible.

First check whether you qualify through:

• An eligible Schengen, US, or UK visit visa

• Permanent residence in the US, EU, or UK

• Residence in a GCC country

• Another visa route displayed by the current official platform

When none of the electronic routes applies, the KSA Visa platform explains that travelers may need to apply through an available service center or a Saudi embassy.

Do not submit the application using another person’s nationality, residence permit, or visa details.

A visa obtained with false or misleading information may be refused or create serious problems later. The official eVisa terms require applicants to provide true and accurate information and state that approval remains at the discretion of the responsible authority.

Can Children Travel for Umrah With an eVisa?

Children can be included in an Umrah journey, but they do not travel under a parent’s eVisa.

Each traveler needs an application connected to their own passport, including children. The KSA Visa platform states that a separate application must be submitted for every person, even a child.

A minor cannot personally use the official eVisa service as an adult applicant. A parent, legal guardian, or properly authorized person must complete the process on the child’s behalf. The official terms allow an adult to apply for a minor when that adult has the authority to do so.

For each child, prepare:

• The child’s own passport

• The child’s personal details

• A separate suitable photograph

• The child’s correct date and place of birth

• The passport issue and expiry dates

• Any parent or guardian information requested

• A separate visa result

• Any separate Nusuk registration or permit required for the journey

The child’s details should not be copied from a parent’s passport or application without checking them carefully.

Can One Parent Apply for the Whole Family?

An adult may complete applications for family members when authorized to do so, but each traveler remains a separate applicant.

This means every person should have:

• Their own passport information

• Their own photograph

• Their own application record

• Their own issued visa

• Their own travel document checks

• Their own applicable Umrah permit

A family application should not be treated as one visa covering everyone.

Before submitting, compare every name, passport number, birth date, nationality, and photograph. Family applications can become difficult when one child’s photograph is added to another child’s form or one parent’s passport expiry date is repeated across several applicants.

Does a Spouse’s Eligibility Cover the Other Spouse?

Not automatically.

One spouse may qualify through an eligible passport, while the other spouse may hold a different nationality and need another route.

Likewise, one spouse’s Schengen visa, UK residence status, or GCC residence permit does not automatically belong to the other spouse.

Check each traveler separately.

For example, when a husband holds an eligible British passport and his wife holds a passport from a country outside the standard list, the wife’s eligibility should be checked using her own passport and any qualifying residence or visa documents she personally holds.

The same principle applies to parents, adult children, siblings, and other relatives traveling together.

Can Women Apply for the Saudi eVisa Independently?

A woman who meets the applicable eligibility and document conditions can complete a Saudi tourist eVisa application in her own name.

Her application should be assessed using her own:

• Passport

• Nationality

• Residence status

• Qualifying visa, where relevant

• Photograph

• Personal and travel information

She should not use a husband’s or male relative’s eligibility details as though they were her own.

Where family members travel together, their applications may be prepared at the same time for convenience, but each person’s eligibility and documents should still be checked separately.

What if You Have Dual Nationality?

A traveler holding two passports should choose carefully which passport will be used for the application.

Use the same passport:

• During the eVisa application

• For airline check-in

• When entering Saudi Arabia

• When registering visa information in Nusuk

• During later travel under the same eVisa

The official terms require the traveler to arrive with the same passport used in the application.

Do not apply using the more convenient nationality and then travel with the other passport.

Before choosing, check:

• Which passport qualifies for the intended route

• Which passport will remain valid for the journey

• Which passport contains any qualifying foreign visa

• Whether the traveler can use that passport consistently throughout the process

Can You Use an Existing Saudi eVisa for Umrah?

You may not need a new visa simply because your next journey is for Umrah.

An existing tourist eVisa may still be usable when:

• It has not expired

• It permits another entry

• The permitted stay has not been exceeded

• The passport used for the original application remains valid and usable

• The same passport will be used for the new journey

• The travel is outside any applicable restriction

• The traveler completes the current Umrah permit process

Do not submit a duplicate application before checking the existing document.

An existing eVisa does not automatically create a new Nusuk appointment. The Umrah permit step should still be checked for the intended dates.

What if Your Passport Has Been Renewed?

An eVisa is connected to the passport used in the application.

The official terms require the traveler to arrive using that same passport.

When the passport has been renewed, replaced, lost, damaged, or canceled, do not assume that the old eVisa automatically transfers to the new passport.

Check the appropriate visa route before booking and do not manually change the passport number on an issued eVisa.

A Practical Eligibility Check Before You Apply

Ask these questions in order:

1. Is my passport nationality on the current eVisa eligibility list?

2. If not, do I hold an eligible Schengen, US, or UK visit visa?

3. Am I a permanent resident of the US, EU, or UK?

4. Am I a lawful resident of a GCC country?

5. Does my passport have enough remaining validity?

6. Will I use the same passport throughout the application and journey?

7. Does every accompanying adult and child have their own documents?

8. Is my purpose Umrah rather than Hajj?

9. Do my travel dates avoid any current seasonal restrictions?

10. Can I complete the Nusuk permit process before performing Umrah?

When your eligibility route is clear, review how to apply for a Saudi Arabia eVisa before entering your information.

The best application route is not the one that appears fastest on the screen. It is the one that accurately matches the traveler’s passport, residence status, supporting documents, and reason for travel.

Documents Required for a Saudi eVisa for Umrah

Applying for a Saudi eVisa for Umrah does not usually require a large folder of paperwork. The standard online application mainly depends on a valid passport, a suitable personal photograph, accurate personal information, and successful payment.

The small number of documents can make the process appear easy. In practice, many avoidable problems begin with a passport number entered incorrectly, a photograph that cannot be accepted, or information copied from memory instead of directly from the document.

Prepare everything before opening the application. Do not try to complete the form while searching for documents in another room or asking family members for missing details through WhatsApp.

Saudi eVisa for Umrah Document Checklist

For a standard tourist eVisa application, prepare:

• The passport that will be used to travel

• A recent digital personal photograph

• An active email address

• A reachable mobile or WhatsApp number

• Accurate home and contact information

• Basic information about the intended journey

• A suitable payment method

• Separate passport and photograph details for every accompanying traveler

• Any qualifying foreign visa or residence document used for eligibility

The official Saudi eVisa terms require a valid passport and state that the application will not succeed unless the passport has at least six months remaining from the intended date of entry. The official National Platform also lists a valid passport and headshot photograph among the basic tourist visa requirements.

Use the Passport You Will Actually Carry

The passport used in the application is not simply an identity reference. The issued eVisa is connected to that document.

Saudi eVisa conditions require the traveler to arrive using the same passport used during the application.

Before applying, ask:

• Will I still have this passport on the travel date?

• Does it have at least six months of validity remaining at entry?

• Is the passport damaged?

• Am I planning to renew it before the journey?

• Does the machine-readable information match the printed details?

• Will I use another passport because I hold dual nationality?

• Is this the passport connected to my qualifying foreign visa or residence status?

Do not apply with a passport that you already intend to replace.

A new passport normally has a different passport number. Travelers should not assume that an eVisa issued against the old passport will automatically transfer to the new one.

Which Passport Details Must Match?

Enter every important detail exactly as it appears on the passport information page.

This includes:

• Full name

• Passport number

• Nationality

• Date of birth

• Place of birth, when requested

• Sex, as shown on the document

• Passport issue date

• Passport expiry date

• Issuing country or authority

Do not shorten a name because it is long. Do not add an English name that does not appear on the passport. Do not replace an unfamiliar spelling with the spelling normally used on social media or bank documents.

The visa application, issued eVisa, airline reservation, passport, and later Nusuk registration should refer to the same traveler.

Read the Machine-Readable Zone Carefully

The machine-readable zone is the group of letters, numbers, and symbols at the bottom of many passport information pages.

It can help confirm:

• The passport number

• Nationality code

• Date of birth

• Sex marker

• Passport expiry date

However, do not copy every character blindly. Passport numbers can contain letters and numbers that look similar.

Common mistakes include confusing:

• The letter O with the number 0

• The letter I with the number 1

• The letter B with the number 8

• The letter S with the number 5

Compare the information at least twice before submission.

Passport Validity for an Umrah Journey

The passport must generally have at least six months of remaining validity when the traveler enters Saudi Arabia.

Count from the intended arrival date, not from:

• The day the application is submitted

• The day the eVisa is approved

• The day the flight is booked

• The planned departure from Saudi Arabia

For example, a passport may have seven months remaining when the application is prepared but less than six months remaining by the actual travel date.

When the journey is several months away, check the future arrival date before paying.

The Photograph Is Part of the Visa Record

A Saudi eVisa photograph should be prepared as a formal application image, not selected casually from a phone gallery.

The official photo specifications currently require:

• A 200 × 200 pixel image

• A file size between 5 KB and 100 KB

• A recent photograph taken within the previous six months

• A white, plain background

• No background shadows

• Only the applicant in the image

• A centered and clearly visible face

• The face occupying approximately 70%–80% of the photograph

Religious headwear may be accepted, but the face must remain visible from the lower chin to the forehead and should not be covered by shadows.

Do Not Use a Passport-Page Screenshot as the Personal Photo

The photograph printed inside the passport and the digital photograph uploaded with the application are not the same file.

Do not submit:

• A photograph cropped from the passport page

• A screenshot from a video call

• A group photograph with other people removed

• A heavily filtered selfie

• A photograph with a patterned room behind the applicant

• A full-body image

• An old photograph that no longer reflects the applicant’s appearance

• Another family member’s photograph

A clear smartphone photograph may be usable when it is prepared correctly, but it should still meet the official size, framing, background, and file requirements.

What Information Should You Prepare Before Starting?

In addition to the passport and photograph, prepare the personal information that may be needed to complete the application.

Have the following available:

• Current residential address

• Country of residence

• Email address

• Mobile number

• Marital status, when requested

• Occupation or professional information, when requested

• Intended arrival period

• Basic accommodation or destination information

• Details of accompanying family members

• Emergency or contact information, when requested

Enter the applicant’s actual circumstances.

Do not select an occupation, country of residence, or marital status because it appears more likely to produce approval. The official terms require applicants to provide true and accurate information and state that applications containing false or misleading details may be rejected.

Use an Email Address You Can Open

The official eVisa terms require the applicant to have a valid email address, and an approved eVisa is sent as an email attachment.

Use an address that:

• You can access without another person’s permission

• Has enough storage space

• Can receive international messages

• Will remain active until after the journey

• Is checked regularly

• Has a recoverable password

After submission, monitor:

• The main inbox

• Spam or junk folders

• Promotions folders

• Application-related notifications

Do not rely entirely on another family member’s inbox when you may need to retrieve your eVisa at the airport.

Documents for Schengen, US, UK, or Residence-Based Eligibility

Travelers applying through an additional eligibility route may need information from the document that supports that route.

Depending on the route selected, prepare the relevant:

• Schengen visit visa

• United States visit visa

• United Kingdom visit visa

• US permanent residence document

• EU permanent residence document

• UK permanent residence document

• GCC residence permit

The document should belong to the same person applying for the Saudi visa.

Check:

• Document number

• Issuing country

• Issue date

• Expiry date

• Visa or residence category

• The passport connected to the document

• Whether the document is still valid

Do not use a spouse’s residence card or another family member’s qualifying visa as though it belongs to the applicant.

Travelers who are uncertain about the correct route should compare the available Saudi Arabia visa options before submitting information under the wrong category.

Each Family Member Needs Separate Information

When a family travels for Umrah, it is tempting to complete every form by copying the first application and changing only the name.

That is where many mistakes occur.

Every adult and child should be checked separately for:

• Passport number

• Full name

• Date of birth

• Nationality

• Passport dates

• Personal photograph

• Eligibility route

• Contact or guardian information

• Issued eVisa

Children do not travel under a parent’s eVisa. An authorized adult may complete the application on behalf of a minor, but the child remains a separate applicant connected to their own passport.

Before payment, place the passports beside one another and check every application individually.

Do You Need to Upload Flight and Hotel Bookings?

The basic official tourist eVisa guidance identifies the valid passport, headshot photograph, completed application, and payment as the central application requirements.

Travelers should not purchase expensive non-refundable flights solely because they believe a booking confirmation will guarantee visa approval.

However, you should still have a realistic journey in mind and be ready to provide accurate travel or accommodation information when the application route requests it.

A booking does not replace eligibility, and payment does not guarantee approval. Final approval remains at the discretion of the responsible Saudi authority.

How Medical Insurance Fits Into the Process

Saudi visit visa processes include medical insurance arrangements through the official visa platform. KSA Visa provides an insurance issuance service for visit visa requests, and Saudi Arabia also offers an official service for checking visitor, tourist, or Umrah insurance status using the passport number connected to the policy.

Applicants should:

• Review the insurance information shown during the visa process

• Check the final amount before payment

• Save any policy information issued with the application
